The Hunt for Home – Finding the Perfect Spot for NH44

Every dream has a beginning. For us, it wasn’t just a kitchen or a menu it was a place. A place that could hold everything we had envisioned for NH44: the laughter of friends, the clinking of chai glasses, the aroma of sizzling spices, the warmth of English comfort food served with Indian heart.

We started with a simple wish to build a space that felt like ours. Not just a restaurant, but a reflection of our journey. So, we hit the road from small units tucked away in side alleys to prime high street spots that made us pause and whisper, “Maybe this is it?”

We walked through empty shells with peeling paint, imagined seating where broken tiles lay, pictured conversations where silence echoed. We visited spaces at all hours in the bright buzz of a weekday afternoon and the stillness of a Sunday morning just to see how it felt. Because more than price tags and square footage, we were chasing a feeling. That gut instinct that says, “This is home.”

And finally, after months of searching, negotiating, second-guessing, and dreaming we stood inside a space in St George’s Centre, Gravesend, and knew: this was it. It had the pulse of the town, the footfall we hoped for, and a soul just waiting to be awakened.
